Types of Wicks
Depending on the manufacturer of your heater, your wick may be a simple flat wick or a more complex complete metal wick assembly. Most wicks are generally constructed with a high quality cotton bottom section for excellent absorption topped by a fiberglass burning surface for increased wick life and superior performance. Metal Wicks
Metals wicks, as they are commonly referred to, are comprised of the same high quality materials as flat wicks. However, they also incorporate metal parts that are permanently attached to the wick. Most are cylindrical in shape.

The most common metal part to be attached to the wick is the wick sleeve, or wick holder. This wick sleeve can range from simple metal gear plates affixed to the wick to more complex assemblies. These wick sleeves are commonly designed with some means for the wick adjuster shaft to engage the wick sleeve in order to raise and lower the wick.
